Shiven Rovers 2-2 Dunmore Town 

Shiven Rovers win 6-5 on Penalties

In the first game of the day, Shiven Rovers took on Dunmore Town in the Connacht Women’s Shield Final. Both teams had a tough run to the final and it let to a fiercely close game. Dunmore took an early lead through Aoife Smyth but were they were brought back to level when Ciara Lally struck one low on the stroke of halftime to make it 1-1 at the break. Shiven took the lead in the second half through a Sinead Flynn goal and they were looking in control before Amy Byrnes jumped higher than every one else and headed one home to set up an exciting last 15 minutes. In the dying minutes of the a ball broke loose in the Dunmore box and Shiven struck the crossbar from close range and couldn’t convert the rebound. With this, the referee sounded his whistle to bring us to extra time. Extra time proved to be end-to-end and it looked like Dunmore were the most likely to score but ultimately couldn’t convert. With the sides all square after 20 minutes, we headed for penalties. Shiven ran out 6-5 winners on penalties.

Commiserations to Dunmore, they put up a great fight and gave us an exciting match and it really could’ve went either way. A massive congratulations to Shiven Rovers for coming out the better on the day. Aine Finnegan from Dunmore was presented with her Player of the Match Trophy after the game after an excellent game all round.
